custom framing an antique French embroidered silk postcard

What a wonderful treasure came into the shop for us to frame this week! Our client brought in a WW1 French embroidered postcard sent by his uncle to his father. His uncle was wounded during battle, and was in a field hospital in France. He died from mustard gas a short time after sending the postcard.

What is Conservation UV glazing????

Ultraviolet light can cause color loss, paper embrittlement, and deterioration of artwork, as does visible light. While it is not possible to block out visible light, it is possible to filter out much of the UV spectrum by using conservation glazing. Conservation glazing has a coating that filters out 97% of the UV spectrum in the 300 to 380 nanometer range, the range that conservators are most concerned about.
